Western Living seeks City Editor for Edmonton

City Editor, Edmonton

Salary: $250/month

The City Editor works closely with the Assistant Editor to select items each month for the magazine’s front-of-book shopping section, The Goods. Once the selection is made, the City Editor is responsible for writing final copy for each chosen item (three to four, 50 words each).

The City Editor is also expected to be the magazine’s representative at occasional design-world events, and to keep the magazine’s HQ abreast of developments and events in the local shopping, culinary and design scenes.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent design sense
  • Superior research and writing skills
  • A firm respect for deadlines
  • A deep familiarity with the local shopping, culinary and design scenes
  • The ability to serve as Western Living’s representative on occasion
  • Applicant must be located in Edmonton.

Broadview Press seeks Assistant Editor

Academic book publisher Broadview Press has an opening for the position of Assistant English Editor. The position entails assisting the English Editor with market and editorial research, book promotion, and project management. Duties will include: contacting academics for peer review and market research; collaborating with marketing and editorial staff to generate promotional copy and materials; and contacting and coordinating freelance writers and editors for book projects. The position will also involve a small academic sales territory and occasional travel to academic conferences.

This position requires exceptional organizational, research, and time management skills. The successful candidate will be an excellent writer and verbal communicator and will be comfortable working in a deadline-driven, collaborative environment. Basic computer proficiency (Word, Outlook, and Excel) is required. A bachelor’s degree in the humanities or social sciences is a prerequisite, and a background in English is strongly preferred. A master’s degree and/or experience in copy-editing or proofreading is not required, but will be an asset.

The position is a permanent, full-time one beginning August 2012, and will be located in Calgary, Alberta.

Salary range: starting at $36,000-$40,000 a year depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits.
