Creating Facebook and Twitter accounts is not enough, authors, illustrators and other expert entrepreneurs must commit to sharing and interacting with their online communities. Often, social media training ends with the how-tos of hashtags and status updates but you can’t stop there.
In this one-day intensive, author, speaker and social media trainer Angela Crocker will help you craft a Visibility Action Plan that works for both the author and their fans. You’ll explore what types of content to post and assess the most desirable frequency (which is different for every fan base!). We’ll also look at supporting accounts you may want to open including YouTube and Flickr and have a little fun creating some video content in class.
While learning about more advanced community building strategies, you’ll also be introduced to a variety of online tools that can enhance your efforts from PageModo and Involver to Tweetchat, Hootsuite and TwentyFeet. You’ll finish the day better equipped to manage your online efforts to make the most of the time investment in marketing your most important asset – you!
Note: This workshop assumes participants already have a basic understanding of social media tools and that they will come to class with their Twitter and Facebook log-in information. If you need to take these first steps, consider registering for Social Media for Authors on November 26, 2011.
FACULTY
An avid finger puppet collector and a closet Internet geek since 1994, Angela Crocker helps authors and other expert entrepreneurs build (mostly) online communities through social net-working. She has a unique ability to teach using geek-speak that’s understandable to all. A community builder, Angela believes social networking is part art and part science. From the technical how-tos to the art of conversation, Angela teaches anyone to find and passionately embrace their community both online and offline. She has a special affinity with authors having worked as a bookseller, an in-house marketing rep and now as an author in her own right. Her first book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Creating a Social Network, shares many of her tips for successful communities. Find her at www.beachcombercommunications.com or at a coffee shop playing with her latest tech toy.
