MONDAY, July 23 – TUESDAY, July 24 2012
9:00am–5:00pm
$475.00 CDN (includes course material)

Copyediting and proofreading skills are fundamental to many positions in publishing and corporate communications. A well-prepared, error-free document is not only a sign of professionalism, but also an effective vehicle for impressing clients and customers.

This two-day workshop is ideal for anyone wanting an introduction to the world of publishing or communications, or for anyone currently called upon to improve the writing of others in their organization. The class incorporates group discussion and hands-on exercises while covering the following topics:

COPYEDITING
• Editing marks
• The copyeditor’s responsibilities
• Finding and noting mistakes in spelling, punctuation, and grammar
• Striving for consistency
• Preparing style sheets

PROOFREADING
• Proofreading marks
• The proofreader’s responsibilities
• The proofreading process
• Technology and proofreading

Copyediting and Proofreading is an excellent complement to Fundamentals of Grammar (July 11), Punctuation and Mechanics (July 11 ), Usage Woes and Myths (July 12), Clear and Concise: Guidelines for Style (July 13), and The Secrets of Syntax (July 14). It also offers a good warm-up for anyone interested in attending the week-long Book Editing Immersion Workshop (see July 16-21).
