Rowland Lorimer

Rowland Lorimer (lorimer@sfu.ca) is Director of the Master of Publishing program and the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at Simon Fraser University. He is Professor of Communication and past editor and past publisher of the Canadian Journal of Communication, of which he is now the treasurer. He is an honorary president of the Association for Canadian Studies and is a past president of the Canadian Association of Learned Journals.
For the last ten years his research has had a dual focus: the Canadian publishing industry and the mass media. Lorimer has carried out more than 20 commissioned studies on book, magazine, and scholarly journal publishing in Canada. His current work is oriented to facilitating the transition of journal, book, and magazine publishers into online publishing in part through the CFI-funded SYNERGIES project.
His research spans the mass media and focuses on the Canadian publishing industry. He has undertaken a wide variety of research projects that have resulted in books, scholarly articles, and major reports. His research in publishing has included numerous articles on the nature and dynamics of the industry, government policy, learning materials in Canadian schools, and scholarly journal publishing.
