Mary Schendlinger

Mary Schendlinger (schendli@sfu.ca) is an editor, writer, and teacher who has worked in publishing for more than thirty-five years. She spent seven years as editorial/production assistant and promotion manager in-house at Talonbooks, and ten years as managing editor in-house for Harbour Publishing, responsible for editorial work on all publications, including the print and online editions of The Encyclopedia of British Columbia.

As proprietor of her own editing firm, she has edited books for Douglas & McIntyre Ltd., Greystone Books, Raincoast Books, Heritage House, Calypso Books, Arsenal Pulp Press, and numerous self-publishers; she has also edited online and print publications for the Vancouver Art Gallery and corporate clients. Mary is co-founder and Senior Editor of Geist magazine.

She has designed and taught courses and workshops in writing and publishing for SFU, UBC, Malaspina College, the Geist Foundation, and several writers’ festivals. She is also an award-winning published writer, author of Prepare To Be Amazed: The Geniuses of Modern Magic (Annick Press), The Little Greenish-Brown Book of Slugs, The Little Blonde Book of Kim Campbell, and other little books (Arsenal Pulp Press), as well as many shorter prose works and comics published in Geist and in anthologies and other periodicals.
